Vertex
2 Pro SSD Performance Preview at Anandtech
2009-12-31
Just in time for the new year, OCZ's upcoming Vertex 2 Pro SSD got its
first look at Anandtech, and blew away previous records set by some of
the top drives on the market! Praised as "the fastest MLC SSD we have
ever tested", check out what is in store for the next generation of OCZ
drives that will be showcased at this year's CES in Las Vegas Nevada.
The Vertex 2 Pro will be in production in Q1 2010 but already shows
amazing promise as an enterprise class drive!
The entire article can be viewed here at
www.anandtech.com
“The Vertex 2 Pro’s dominance doesn’t stop in the synthetic tests -
we have a new winner in PCMark Vantage. The Vertex 2 Pro is 6% faster
than the X25-M G2 in the overall PCMark Vantage test and 12% faster in
the HDD specific suite.”
“The OCZ Vertex 2 Pro is the fastest single-controller MLC SSD I’ve ever
tested, and it’s not even running final firmware. It’s quite telling
that SandForce decided to make its first public showing with OCZ.
Perhaps all of the initial hard work with Indilinx in the Vertex days
paid off.”
“The controller and product both look very good. The only concern for
the majority of users seems to be price. For the enterprise market I
doubt it’ll be much of an issue.”
“The Fastest MLC SSD We've Ever Tested”

medium, and is a high-performance, highly
reliable and energy-efficient alternative to
conventional hard disc drives.
The OCZ Core Series delivers the performance and
reliability of the latest SSDs at a 50% less
price per gigabyte than other high speed
offerings currently on the market. For the first
time, OCZ is putting SSD technology within reach
of the average consumer, and delivering on the
promise of SSDs as an alternative to traditional
hard drives in consumer targeted mobile
applications.
“SSDs offer higher performance, reliability, and
energy efficiency than conventional HDDs but the
cost variance has limited adoption of vastly
superior SSD technology, until now,” said Ryan
Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology. “It is our
mission to deliver the highest performance
products to consumers at reasonable prices, and
with the release of the Core Series SSDs we have
done exactly that.”
OCZ Core Series Solid State Drives enable
enhanced productivity in everyday computing and
intensive multi-tasking applications. Perfect
for notebooks, the Core Series is ideal for
energy-efficient mobile computing to extend
battery life, increase access time, and provide
a durable alternative to conventional hard disc
drives with superior shock resistance. High
capacities and low power consuming NAND flash
technology provide the necessary performance and
battery life boosts generated by the
proliferation of mobile gaming and new
ultra-thin laptops. With fast access and seek
times combined with excellent reliability, the
OCZ Core Series SSDs are the answer for
consumers demanding this latest storage
technology.
The drives feature a durable yet lightweight
alloy housing, and because OCZ SSDs have no
moving parts, the drives are not prone to damage
from common mishandling. Designed for ultimate
reliability, these SSDs have an excellent 1.5
million hour mean time before failure (MTBF)
ensuring peace of mind over the long term. All
Core Series SSD drives come backed a two year
warranty and OCZ’s legendary service and
support.
Core series SSD drives are available in
capacities of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB and deliver
incredible 120-143 MB/s 80-93 MB/s read/write
speeds and seek times of less than 0.35ms,
making the Core series up to 10x as fast on a
seek-time basis and up to 40% faster on a R/W
basis that the best performing 2.5” HDDs on the
market, all while consuming 50% less power.
MSRPs at time of launch are USD $169, $259 and
$479 for 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models
respectively. |

Albatron Retrotechnology -"PCI" graphics alive and
kickin' with GeForce® 8 Series GPUs! |
| |
| |
 |
| |
| |
Albatron Technology recently
unveiled three new "PCI" graphics cards at Computex 2008.
You read it right - "PCI" and not "PCI Express"! The
PCI8600GT-256X, the PCI8500GT-256X and the PCI8400GS-256 are
all VGAs that retrofit recent GeForce 8 Series graphics onto
older PCI technology. These cards all offer a significant
graphics boost along with dual monitor capabilities for an
entire generation of integrated-graphics, PCI-only
mainboards.
Millions of existing Mainboards without AGP or PCI
Express
It's a little known fact that there have been millions of
Mainboards mass produced in the last 7 years with AGP and
PCI Express slots left off in favor of integrated graphics
only. Although these mainboards have the traditional
PCI-slots, they have been deprived of a chance to upgrade to
the latest graphics technology which is almost exclusively
for PCI Express these days. The best alternative to
experience the latest graphics was for a complete systems
overhaul - that is, until now.
Albatron has answered the call with its PCI based VGA cards
featuring recent NVIDIA GeForce 8 Series graphics
technology. These cards allow these mainboards a chance to
make a significant jump from integrated graphics without
investing time and money in a whole new system.
Add in a PCI graphics card, add on 2nd, 3rd
or 4th monitor!

As mentioned, these PCI graphics cards, with their multiple
video adapters, can allow a system, with an integrated GFX
mainboard, to configure dual monitors. But it can also give
single-PCIe-VGA mainboards (can do up to 2 monitors only) a
chance to add on a third or fourth monitor - who needs it
you say? You'd be surprised at how you can make use of the
extra real estate when you have 3 or 4 monitors. There are
applications that can make use of more than 2 monitors such
as flight simulation and tracking multiple stock exchanges.
But from a more practical perspective, imagine watching a
DVD in one screen, browsing the internet in another and
doing your work on a third, all without shuffling between
overlapping pages or searching your task bar for a program
that you have open. Most recent VGA cards can get you dual
monitors at best, but add on that third monitor with a PCI
graphics card and you've got one very wide virtual panel.
Integrated Graphics vs. PCI 8 Series Graphics - It's all
in the numbers!
Preliminary tests have the PCI 8 Series VGA cards
significantly outperforming Integrated Graphics by up to
1329%, according to 3DMark2006 scores.

The tests in the chart above were performed on an Intel 915G
MB testing the 3 PCI cards separately and testing once with
integrated graphics only - CPU Pentium-4 520 (2.8 GHz),
DDRII 800 1GB, Windows XP.
Other goodies!
These cards are all low-profile cards that make them easily
adaptable to smaller cases. The PCI8600GT and PCI8500GT
additionally boost performance with DDR III memory and come
with HDMI connectors. All three cards come with DVI and
TV-Out connectors.
Retrotechnology rescues misfit mainboards, breathing new
life into millions
Integrated graphics mainboards without AGP/PCIe slots are
the misfits of the new graphics age, severely limited in
graphics upgrade options. However, the fact remains, that
these boards are still capable, sturdy and abundant in large
numbers. Albatron's PCI 8 Series VGA cards come to the
rescue with three great new cards that allow for an
effortless upgrade with great savings! |
